At only nineteen she has earned the title of also being the youngest member of the Women's Olympic Hockey Team for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. Angie began playing hockey at 12 years of age, simply because she needed to select a sport for School. She soon found out however, that she had a talent for the game. At 13 years of age, she was selected to play in the Queensland No. 1. team. By the time Angie was 15 years old, she had made the Australian Squad. Angie was selected in 1998 in her debut in the International Senior Team to tour Argentina at just 17 years of age. After impressing National Coaches, she was selected in the 1999 Telstra Hockeyroos squad. Angie made her first major tournament appearance at the 2000 Champions Trophy in the Netherlands in May 2000 and then, in September 2000, became the second youngest female player in history to win an Olympic Gold Medal. She was the yougest Australian female Gold Medallist at these Olympics, and then in 2001 Angie was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for service to the sport as a Gold Medallist at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. In 2001, Angie captained the Australian team to a Bronze Medal at the Junior World Cup in Argentina and was a crucial member of the Australian team that won a Bronze Medal at the 2001 Champions Trophy. At the end of 2001, Angie was named Vice-Captain of the Hockeyroos for a home test series against New Zealand. Her most recent achievement was announced in Malaysia in March 2002, where she was named the inaugural winner of the International Hockey Federation World Youth Player of the Year for 2001. In July this year Angie competed at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester where the team won a Bronze Medal. Recently, the world's number one women's hockey "dream" team was selected. Angie was one of only two Australian players selected in the "dream" team. The Coach of this team - Sergio Vigil from Argentina, selected the players for this team and his words on Angie were - "Skirving is a very complete defender. Her technique, her tactics and her physical shape are excellent". For a player as young as Angie, her selection in State and Australian Teams is a remarkable effort. 1999 Selected in the Australian Senior Squad.
